Trump rescinds DACA

What happened today?

Today Donald Trump signed an executive order rescinding DACA, an executive order put in place by Obama with the purpose of protecting undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children from deportation. This is especially nefarious as the participants in the program registered with the Federal Government to apply, making them especially vulnerable to deportation.

Who is impacted?

Some 800,000 immigrants, often called the “Dreamers”, now have uncertain legal status in the United States. This impacts their ability to get jobs, go to school, collect any sort of government benefits. Moreover, they have to live with the constant fear of being deported to a country where they have little to no experience.

How can I help?

We would advise donations to organizations promoting civil rights for immigrants, namely the ACLU or HIAS Pennsylvnia. These organizations help provide information to the affected groups and fight for the immigrants in course.

In addition, you can notify your local legislators that this is absolutely unacceptable.
